Lea hard puck shave soap has some excellent qualities: It's lightly scented and slightly mentholated so great for summer, it doesn't leave any soap residue on your sink or gear, it lathers like crazy and lasts forever. But, initially I had some problems: it didn't do a very good job of softening my beard, and not much cushion or slickness. But, the creme version (in a tube) gets great reviews so what was the problem? I wasn't loading anywhere near enough. It takes a good 50 seconds of loading with a soaked boar brush, and building a good proto-lather on the puck before moving to your face to complete building the lather. I was only loading for about 20 seconds like I do with my soft soaps. Now, the performance is excellent and matches what I read about the creme. Also, bloom the soap before you load and use the bloom water as a pre-shave.
