  • Description
  • The Buck 286 Bantam BHW Knife, the largest of the Buck Bantam series, is durable folding knife with a mid lockback design and ridges on the handle for a firm, well-balanced grip. Thumb studs on either side make the blade easy to open with either hand. The removable stainless steel pocket clip makes it convenient and secure to throw into your pocket on your way out your door.

The Buck 286 BHW is rugged, versatile, and priced to meet every wallet size.

The drop point shape of this knife means it is full bellied, and has a strong, thick point that makes it rugged enough for heavy tasks. The top of this strong, versatile blade drops down toward the tip, minimizing accidental punctures.

When opened fully, the 3.63-inch blade on the Bantam BHW locks safely into position with a mid-lock back design. When closed, the knife is 5.13-inches for convenient everyday carry.

The blade of the 286 Bantam BHW Knife is made of tumbled 420HC stainless steel, as this material has both exceptional corrosion resistance and wear resistance. Buck's exclusive Paul Bos heat-treating and testing process maximizes both of these advantages, and makes the blade easy to resharpen when needed. It is hardened to a Rockwell Hardness of RC58 through a rigorous heating, freezing and reheating process.

When the blade is fully opened, it locks securely into place. The lock is released by pushing down on the rocker visible in the center of the knife's back and folding the blade closed.

The handles of the The 286 Bantam Knife are glass reinforced textured nylon.

Engraving: Up to 8 characters can be engraved on the blade of the Buck 286 Bantam BHW Folding Knife (Black).

    knife opened really great ,

knife opened really great , but I found it hard to close

trying to close is getting better now, but I did manage to get a little cut when trying to close it. I can close it with my thumb now and not have to use a corner of a hard

    surface. thanks.

Not like Bucks I have had before

Not all that impressed. I know Buck is not a high end brand, but I have had a few Bucks over the years (I'm 70) and found them to be good quality...especially at that price point. They took a good edge, and did a reasonable job of holding that edge. They opened and closed easily and safely, and were fairly rugged. I use my knife as a tool...probably too hard on them...but they were rugged enough that they held up.

The one I just got seems to be manufactured with maybe the same components (I have not had it long enough to test the blade), but maybe not to the same tolerances. It is harder to open...no big deal I guess, but it is much harder to close. You have to depress the bar very hard, while simultaneously closing the blade...that poses a safety hazard. It seems like maybe this knife is made with a little less "precision" for lack of a better word.

I will still use it...but think I am going to purchase a Kbar Dozier for my "daily carry"...and not use this one for that.

    Excellent Product

The Buck 286 Bantam BHW feels very sturdy and appears to be well made and is quite sharp. I appreciate that while the blade is stainless, the pocket clip is painted black to blend in with clothes and doesn't draw attention. I should have realized that while you can open it easily with one hand, you need two to close it but that's my oversight. Regardless, I think the knife is an excellent product from Buck and I'm very happy to invest in yet another American company that actually provides tools made here in the USA.
