Merkur was founded in 1896 by Emil Hermes in Solingen, Germany, but because there were already other cutlery companies in Solingen with the name of Hermes, Emil registered the brand name as MERKUR. Over the years, MERKUR has patented several of its models. Following the early death of his father, Hans Hermes, Dietrich Hermes ran the business during the years of the "economic miracle" together with his uncle Erich Hermes. After Erich's death in the 1970s, Dietrich sold the company MERKUR Stahlwaren to its biggest client, DOVO. If I knew then what I know now about this product I wouldn’t have purchased it. I use Merkur razors and I’m very pleased. This small specialty razor is a good idea but sorely lacks in being able to cut the beard without going over and over the same small spot. I don’t know if it’s the angle of the razor blade in the razor head or me. It of course has a brand new razor in it. I’ll keep using it for now or I’ll just return to using my straight razor for these small spots on my goatee.

I was excited to try this product, but was very disappointed after trying. It is not nearly as sharp as it needs to be. I do use it some, but not as much as I would like.I even purchased extra blades and the new blades aren't any sharper.
